Bare Toed Company offers sessions throughout Tyneside and Northumberland in toddler groups, nurseries, Sure Start projects and schools as well as teaching regularly for Dance City in Newcastle and The Alnwick Playhouse. Our classes take developmental stages into consideration and use themes that the children can relate to their own experience. We adapt to the group and whenever possible take inspiration from the children themselves, listening to their suggestions and developing their ideas. Our sessions are based on sound current research into developmental movement and allow time for kinaesthetic learning, revisiting developmental stages, creative, imaginative and emotional expression. Sessions also develop physical skills such as balance, co-ordination, strength, stamina, gross motor skills, spatial awareness etc. and social skills like turn-taking, sharing and communication. One of the company's main interests is how movement play can support, strengthen and enrich the parent - child relationship. We believe that it is important for adults to value and nurture a child's natural instinct to move and our parent and child classes are based on this belief.
