Downside Up

Downside Up began in partnership with Juice Festival, Arts Connect and Thomas Bewick School for young people with autism.  Our explorations of flying and dancing with the children and staff in the gym school grew into a rich project culminating in the making of a film and hugely popular open installation and performances at Northern Stage.

Over the year, we chose various locations to develop harness work with aerialists and young people both indoors and outdoors.  The project was inspired by the creativity of the young people involved and the freedom and possibility created by relating to the world from all angles. Have a look at the documentation in this film by dancer and film maker John Quinn.
